Ingredients:

- 4 slices of bread (stale bread works best)

- 2 large eggs

- 1/2 cup (120 ml) milk

- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

- Butter or oil for frying

Instructions:

1. In a shallow dish or bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, ground cinnamon (if using), and a pinch of salt until well combined.

2. Heat a large skillet or griddle over medium heat and add a small amount of butter or oil to grease the surface.

3. Dip each slice of bread into the egg mixture, allowing it to soak for a few seconds on each side until fully coated but not soggy.

4. Place the soaked bread slices onto the hot skillet or griddle and cook for 2-3 minutes on each side, or until golden brown and crispy.

5. Repeat with the remaining slices of bread, adding more butter or oil to the skillet as needed.

6. Once all the Pain Perdu slices are cooked, transfer them to serving plates.

7. Serve the Pain Perdu warm with maple syrup, powdered sugar, fresh fruit, or your favorite toppings.

8. Enjoy your delicious French toast for breakfast or brunch!
